Burton Elementary Uses Creativity and Fun in Recent Project Based Learning Exercise

Burton Elementary School first grade students in the classes of Mrs. Chase and Mrs. Bittinger recently participated in a fun and exciting Project Based Learning exercise that included creating Gingerbread Men and maps for their very own story. Deploying their creativity and “mapping skills,” through the use of construction paper, glue and other hands-on design material, these elementary students were able to figuratively develop illustrations for where they wanted their stories and characters to go, after having created them through collaboration and a voting system. Opportunities such as our Burton Elementary School first graders using the hands-on approach and some “cartography skills,” working together to creative a narrative and solve problems, is the hallmark of Project Based Learning. Congratulations to these teachers for the creative lesson, and to the students for sharpening these valuable life skills!
