The Berkshire Local Schools played host for the Berkshire Early Bird Invitational this past weekend for boys’ and girls’ cross country, where nearly 700 middle school and high school students gathered at the Geauga County Fairgrounds for this interscholastic competition. Kicking off with the boys’ middle school race at 8 a.m., followed by the girls’ middle school race at 8:30 a.m., boys’ high school at 9 a.m. and girls’ high school at 9:30 a.m., the late summer weekend morning was buzzing with Berkshire student athletes as well as administrators who flawlessly facilitated the entire meet. The open racetrack and nearby open fields served as the course for the boys’ and girls’ runners as well. Approximately 19 school districts converged on the Geauga County Fairgrounds to race, making this meet the largest in Northeast Ohio, providing a “state qualifying meet” atmosphere. Special thank you goes out to Berkshire Athletic Director Brian Hiscox for playing a vital role in the organization and facilitation of this annual, highly anticipated cross country meet.
