Big History Students Travel Back 13.8 Billion Years
Students enrolled in Big History this semester attended an educational program at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. The program, called “The Universe: From The Big Bang to the Solar System Through Tomorrow,” was presented at the facility’s newly renovated planetarium. Students experienced visually engaging instruction that reinforced the content at the center of the Big History course, which highlights “threshold” moments over 13.8 billion years. Each of these “thresholds,” or doorways to new complexity, help students to conceptualize an origin story that goes back far enough to include all things in the known Universe. It is this big picture perspective that makes the course “Big” history! Students will use the information they gained during this field trip to support their final essay, which will ask them to briefly explain the history of the Universe.
