Ledgemont 3rd Graders Design and Present Model Zoo Exhibits

Ledgemont 3rd Grade Zoo Exhibit Presentation

3rd graders at Ledgemont Elementary School recently completed a project-based learning activity which required them to work in pairs to research a specific animal, design a model zoo exhibit to house the animal at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, and finally, present their proposal and model exhibit to fellow classmates in the school cafeteria.  In addition, Superintendent John Stoddard and Principal Kelly Rinehart were present to evaluate each presentation using a rubric.  The project incorporated several different content areas included math, science and language arts.  Each group calculated the area and perimeter of their zoo exhibit which replicated the natural habitat of the selected animal.  To share their research findings and pitch their proposal, every group created a short video featuring the name and picture of the selected animal, a description of their zoo exhibit and footage of themselves sharing why the exhibit would make for a great addition to the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo.  At the conclusion of each presentation, students in the audience had the opportunity to ask each group questions about their specific animal and proposed zoo exhibit.  Congratulations to all third graders for delivering creative and professional presentations!
