Burton Elementary School Second Grade Students Experience Lessons from Century Village Visit

Second grade students from Burton Elementary School recently had the opportunity to take a field trip to nearby Century Village and experience firsthand the challenges and lifestyle choices associated with 17th and 18th century living in the United States. Our students learned through demonstration about household chores and how today’s standard of living is far different than days of old in our country. Students were then able to ask questions of the various guest hosts who accompanied our second graders throughout the day. As a method of reinforcing the lessons that were taught throughout the visit, a special guest, Abraham Lincoln, then came to Burton Elementary School the next day to speak about his Presidency and the issues he confronted as leader of our nation. In all, Burton Elementary School second grade students made the most of this recent, instructive and hands-on visit to Century Village and the follow up lesson with an impersonator of Abraham Lincoln.
