Ledgemont Recognizes Students for Demonstrating Badger PRIDE at PBIS Event

Students and teacher at Ledgemont PBIS

Ledgemont Elementary hosted a series of fun outdoor activities on Friday, September 27, 2019, to recognize students for demonstrating Badger PRIDE and meeting building behavior expectations.  Students had the opportunity to play touch football, dodgeball, capture the flag, tug-of-war and other exciting games while enjoying the beautiful fall weather.  The event was part of the building’s PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Support) program which recognizes students on a monthly basis for meeting 80% of targeted behavior goals.  Those behavior goals are summarized in the term Badger PRIDE, and include, Positivity (Have a good attitude), Respect (Treat others the way you want to be treated), Integrity (Do what’s right when no one is looking), Driven (Be a Leader) and Empathy (Show compassion).  Parents and students can regularly track their progress through Class Dojo, a classroom communication app.

The PBIS program not only recognizes students for positive behavior, but also encourages student leadership through the selection of building PBIS leaders.  The anonymous selection process occurs at the end of each school year and is open to incoming 6th grade students who provide a written explanation of how to improve the school culture at Ledgemont Elementary.  Sixth graders Holly Phillips, Michael White and Michael Skedel were selected to serve as PBIS leaders for the 2019-2020 school year.  Their responsibilities include creating a monthly newsletter to share building news with the community, weekly meetings with School Counselor and PBIS Coordinator Tricia Hart and sharing ideas from fellow students related to fostering a positive building culture.
