Hello Burton Elementary Families!
Welcome back to the 2009 – 2010 school year! We are excited to
spend another fantastic year with you and your family! I appreciate
all of the families who were able to come to the PTO Back to School
Picnic and celebrate the beginning of the 2009-2010 school year.
Listed below is important information you need to know to help make
the 2009-2010 school year successful! Please take note of the
following information:
2009-2010 Office Staff and Important Numbers: Mrs. Ambrose and
Mrs. Ducca will be housed in the main office and can be reached at
either be_ambrose@lgca.org / be_ducca@lgca.org or 834-3380 X 1101.
Mrs. Malkus, Mrs. Evers and Miss Burzanko will be housed in the new
building and can be reached at be_mmalkus@lgca.org /
be_evers@lgca.org / be_burzankom@lgca.org or 834-3380 X 1110. All
calls to Burton Elementary School will be routed to the front
office and transferred accordingly.
Arrival and Dismissal Information:
Please make sure that you send a note with your child so we know
your child’s transportation routine. This year we will run 7 bus
routes for the elementary school. Bus # 18: Mrs. Hall, Bus #6: Mrs.
Steinhoff, Bus #7: Mrs. Miller, Bus #9: Ms. Heitenan, Bus #15: Mrs.
Reid, Bus #17: Mrs. Burzanko, and Bus #19: Mrs. Bongiovanni. The
path will be open and accessible for all students who walk home.
Arrival: Grades 4, 5,and 6 walkers will follow the path to the side
doors of the new building by Mrs. Burzanko’s classroom and enter
there. Dismissal: Students will be dismissed to walk home through
the doors by Mrs. Burzanko’s classroom and head up the path or
towards the playground to the sidewalk towards Carlton Street.
Dismissal: Grades K-3 walkers will exit through the front doors and
head to the sidewalk towards Carlton Street or head to the
playground and follow the path. Arrival: If your child is walking
to school they can follow the path to the playground and come
around to the front doors to enter the school in the morning. Staff
members will be posted outside to help the children with the new
route.
School Hours: School hours for this year remain the same as last
year. School will run from 8:45 a.m. until 3:15 p.m. The doors will
open at 8:35 a.m. and the tardy bell rings at 8:45 a.m. The
walkers, pick-ups, and bus riders will be dismissed beginning at
3:15 p.m.
The following items will come home with your YOUNGEST and/or ONLY
child on the first day of school; (Kindergarteners have already
completed the emergency medical form.)
Burton Elementary Student Handbook: The handbook will be coming
home with the YOUNGEST or ONLY child this year. We are working hard
to conserve paper and this allows us to do so. Please read the
handbook and review the policies and procedures with your child.
Everyone is responsible for the information in the handbook
regardless of whether you return the acknowledgment form or not, so
please make sure you take note of this important information.
The following forms are all included in this packet and are
required for each child. Please read all forms, complete the
requested information and return all forms to school on Thursday,
August 27. Thank you!
Emergency Medical Form: This form is VITAL. Please fill it out
completely and return it to school with each child on Thursday,
August 27. This information helps us get a hold of you in the event
of an emergency, forgotten lunch money, etc. Thank you!
Internet Use Policy/Photo Release Form /FERPA Agreement: These
forms discuss acceptable use for the internet at school, photos at
school, and directory information.
The following items are information items:
Administering Medication Forms: This form is available in the
office if your child should need to take over the counter or
prescription medication at school.

National School Lunch Program: Please complete this form and
return it on Thursday, August 27. This form determines free/reduced
lunch status. You only need to return one form per family.
District Folders: Please watch for school/district information to
come home in PURPLE folders on THURSDAYS. Look over the information
and return any needed items to school in the folder on FRIDAY.
Items included will be things such as, The Badger Gazette, District
Newsletters, etc.
The Badger Gazette: The Badger Gazette is the official newsletter
of Burton Elementary School. This newsletter will give you
information about our school and important dates and upcoming
events. It will also be available on the website at
www.berkshireschools.org in the Burton Elementary Section.
PTO Information: The PTO Officers Information, handbook,
volunteer form and other information will come home today. Please
review the information and return any requested forms on Thursday,
August 27.
We appreciate your attention to all of these important documents
and your prompt response.
