Swagelok Facility Tour

by Jim Lester

February 22, 2010

Recently the students in Mr. Lester’s AP® Calculus, Mrs. Maske’s AP® Chemistry, and Miss Honkala’s Physics classes had the opportunity to tour the Swagelok facility in Highland Heights as part of National Engineer’s Week. Swagelok is a global company specializing in the development and manufacture of fluid system components. Students were given presentations by engineers in a wide variety of fields including electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and manufacturing engineering. Topics included Computer Aided Engineering (CAE), a new way to design and test components using computer models.

Berkshire students were also given tours of the lab facilities, complete with hands-on demonstrations, and the manufacturing facilities. The students then enjoyed a catered lunch while meeting with various Swagelok engineers and managers to discuss careers in engineering. The day ended with a presentation about various opportunities that Swagelok offers such as their Emerging Professionals program and various co-op programs. Many thanks to Swagelok associate and Berkshire resident, Mr. Ken Kaniecki, for arranging such a worthwhile and interesting field trip for the Berkshire students!
