Message from the Superintendent

by Doug DeLong

August 20, 2008

On behalf of the students, staff, and board of education, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the Berkshire Local School District!  Our school district is located in Northeast Ohio in Geauga County.  Berkshire encompasses the communities of Troy, Burton, and Claridon Township.

Our continuous goal is to prepare our children with the educational tools necessary to lead productive and prosperous lives.  We also recognize that it is imperative that our students become knowledgeable citizens and are able to contribute to their communities as adults.  The 21st Century offers new challenges that we are undertaking to ensure our students are ready when they graduate.

The Berkshire Local School District is successful due to the community organizations that support our schools.  Our Parent-Teacher organizations, Athletic Booster Club, Purple Pride, and the Tunebackers provide valuable support to our students and staff.  We are fortunate to enjoy business and community partnerships that offer input and assistance to our district.

Our staff is dedicated to implementing best practices in the classroom so that our students may succeed academically.  We work to promote and practice effective collaboration so the teachers can focus on instruction and assist each other to ensure that their students learn.  Outside the school day, we offer a many athletic and service oriented extra-curricular activities.  We are proud of our students and staff in their achievements in and out of the classroom.

We are looking forward to an exciting and rewarding 2008-2009 school year.  Please contact me anytime for further information or to share your comments, questions or concerns.  My office number is 834-3380 or email me at be_delong@lgca.org

Sincerely,

Doug DeLong

Superintendent
