The 7th and 8th grade Jr. High band recently performed during the month of May. In the beginning of May, the concert band put on a performance for family and friends in the large gym at the High School. Under the direction of Mr. Marks, the band performed 8 selections that had the audience applauding loudly. The fifteen member group played confidently and everyone who attended enjoyed the performance.
On Memorial Day, the band performed at the Claridon Memorial Day Parades. The group started at the site of the former Claridon Elementary School, now Arms Trucking. The students followed the veterans to the East Claridon Cemetary. They stood at attention as the names of all the veterans in the cemetery were read and a potted flower was placed at each tombstone. Nathan D., a seventh grader, played Taps at the end of the flower ceremony. The students then marched back to Arms Trucking, where they boarded the bus and went to the Claridon Town Hall.
Upon arrival at the Town Hall, the students, under the direction of Dan Berman, completed the ceremony once again. They showed respect and patience as they waited for every veteran in the Claridon Center Cemetery to be acknowledged. They played several patriotic songs during both ceremonies and did a fabulous job. A special thanks to Dan Berman and Mrs. Blaha, who was the parent chaperone for the event. Great job Junior High players!
