The Troy Elementary's Roots and Shoots
group led by Mrs. Sherman and Mr. Kostiha had a special outing last
week. They worked in conjunction with the Department of
Aging to do Spring Yard Clean Up for
Senior Citizens. The students were divided into 5 groups to
work at 5 different locations from Troy Township to Middlefield.
There was a lot of energy and enthusiasm shown by the kids
as they eagerly jumped in to the various jobs. Some
raked leaves while others picked up twigs
and branches. Many were called upon to weed flower beds and
one group had to pick up shingles and nails out of a yard! The students proved how hard
they can work and how to mind their manners at each home. The
Seniors were very appreciative!
We had many moms volunteer go along
with us as did some Walmart employees who also supplied our snacks,
some work materials, and also donated each club member a five
dollar gift card to Walmart as a token of appreciation for a job
well done! At the end of the day, the students were exhausted but pleased with
what they had done for others. The Roots and Shoots
group met two of their primary mission goals on that day:
helping humanity and helping the
environment. Congratulations on a job well done and a special
thanks to all of our volunteers!
