Board Meets on Monday

Highlights of the Meeting

    The Board of Education held its regular meeting on Monday, May 5 at Berkshire High School Library at 6:00 PM. All board members, the Treasurer, and Superintendent were in attendance. The Board:    

  • Received a Making Your Tax Dollars Count Award from the State Auditor's Office for excellence in financial reporting for the 2006 Fiscal Year.Less than 5% of all government entities receive this award.
  •  Received an award from the Bureau of Workers Compensation Division of Safety and  Hygiene for a 100% accident free safety performance by our employees.
  •  Approved April expenditures $780,671.72 for general funds .
  •  Received an interest report of $9,738.89 for April. Total interest since July 1 $156,429.90.
  • Transferred $100,000 to the district self insurance fund. 
  •  Heard Auburn Vocational Representative Roger Miller report the Auburn has given five  year contracts to two administrators and is conducting the superintendent's annual evaluation.
  • Heard Board President Manfredi announce the elementary building project advisory committee would visit Coventry Schools modular addition on May 20. The district will be out of Troy by 2010.
  • Approved extended day contracts for 6 staff members for 2008/09
  • Approved a maternity leave for the first quarter of 2008-09 for a HS teacher.
  • Approved county substitute list for April
  • Issued two year contracts to 5 non teaching employees
  • Issued a continuing contract to 1 non teaching employee
  • Approved a one year extension to Food Service Director
  • Accepted a custodial resignation from the high school crew.
  • Approved a playground aide resignation for next school year.
  • Approved membership for Berkshire Junior Senior High in the Ohio High School Athletic Association for 2008-09.
  • Approve renewing agreement for Lake/Geauga Educational Assistance Foundation (LEAF) for 2008/09 to assist college bound students.   
  • Approved class fees for Berkshire HS for 2008/09 with minimal increases
  • Approved the Northwest Ohio Computer Association to prepare data for the Ohio Department of Education using our student results.
  • Approved three resolutions for the Grade 6  outdoor ed trip May 20-23 to Hiram House
  • Approved leasing Troy for 2008-09 from the owner.
  • Approved open enrollment for Grade 7 -12 for contiguous districts for 08-09/
  • Received 17 policy revisions to be voted on in June. 
  • Heard public comment from three citizens
  • Set May 12 for a special meeting to vote on first resolution to renew the current PI levy in November at NO increase in taxes and to conduct a community staff forum for the two candidates for superintendent. Board will convene at 6:45 for the levy vote and the community/staff forums will be 7:00-8:10.
  • Next regular meeting will be on June 2nd at 6:00 in the High School Library.
  • Held an executive session on personnel issues
  • Adjourned at 7:25
