Fifth Grade Science Fair Rocks the BE Gymnasium
by Mary Jo Maxwell and Amy Vinecourt
April 27, 2008
A full gymnasium on Wednesday, April 23rd, marked the annual Science Fair at Burton Elementary. This year, the fair was split into two groups. Fifth grade participated on the 23rd and Sixth grade will participate on April 30th.
Spectators at the fair were treated to a wide variety of experiments. One brave student tried to cut the heat on chilli peppers with a variety of substances. His pictures were great! Another student experimented with giving her horse a variety of treats to see which she liked the best. Her results found that the horse liked any treat she brought. Yet another student tested a variety of music to determine which one increases heart rate. Needless to say, Rock music made the heart beat the fastest.
The top three students were awarded trophies for their efforts. Bobby D. took first place, Josiah S. took second, and Sarah M. took third. RJ M., David P., and Megan A. were awarded honorable mentions.
Mrs. Vinecourt would like to thank the following people for helping judge the fair. All the judges were impressed that night: Mr. Jack Arnold, Mrs. Linda Baker, Deputy Roy Lundstrom, Mr. Nick Hall, Mr. Curt Johnson, Mr. Stuart Park, Mr. Brent Gardner, and Mayor Tom Blair. They were FABULOUS with the students and took plenty of time with each one.
