Parking Lot Pandemonium

An Editorial

You buy a parking pass. You hang it in your car. You park in your assigned spot. It is a simple concept and yet some find it to be a very difficult task. Parking passes are bought at the beginning of the year for $25.00 on a first come first serve basis. Without a parking pass you are unable to park in the Berkshire School parking lot.

Many incidents have occurred throughout the school year. Some students come and go throughout the day, and when they return, their spots, which they paid for, are taken. Just because a spot is not filled at a particular time, doesn’t mean you can take it. Senior Ann Thompson said, “I have been late to school a few times, and when I did get here, my spot was already taken……..it’s bogus!”  When one spot is taken, the person who the spot belongs to must take another spot. This creates a domino effect and causes chaos in the parking lot.

Not only are students parking in other people’s parking spots, they are creating their own spots in fire lanes and non-parking zones. These spaces are not parking spots for a reason. Parking here puts you and other students in danger.

It seems that enough students have complained about the parking situation, as the administration has put out an announcement reminding students to park in their assigned spots. The announcement says that students will be punished if they do not park in their assigned spots. However, several students have continued to ignore the rules of the parking lot and still park unassigned or illegally. The administration is obviously not following through on the promise to punish those that park illegally, as students are still doing it. Perhaps if they would be tougher on the students parking illegally, we would be able to solve the problem.

The bottom line is, if you don’t have a spot, don’t park in the school parking lot.  By doing this, you create chaos in the parking lot and create hazards to both yourself and other students.
