Troy Students Highlight the April Board Meeting

Science and Language Arts Projects

By Dr. Gina Symsek

April 09, 2008

Our 5th and 6th grade students presented their Science Fair experiments and projects at the April 7th BOE meeting.  The students described the Scientific Method as it pertained to their experiments. The topics ranged from effectiveness of laundry detergents to different liquids and their effects on plant growth.  Chris Kostiha, our 4th,5th, 6th grade science teacher,  introduced the students and guided the presentations.  Our Science Fair was a huge success and that is in large part attributed to Mr. Kostiha’s dedication to the students and strengths as a teacher.  Mr. Kostiha and Dr. Symsek publicly thanked the many volunteers that judged the Science Fair as well as the PTO for sponsoring it.  It is  collective efforts such as this that make our school and district a success!

In addition to the young scientists, Mrs. Sherman , our 2nd grade teacher,  and some of her students presented their Language Arts projects.  The students described and shared their character boxes.  The students did a great job explaining the details of these boxes.  The projects highlighted the great writing and creative illustration skills of our students.

Mrs. Sherman guided the presentation and is to be commended for her efforts in providing the students with instruction that not only focuses on content skills but fosters student creativity.  Mrs. Sherman is yet another example of our teachers’ dedication to our students!
