The Berkshire Board of Education held its regular meeting for March on Monday, March 3 in the library of the high school. At the meeting the Board
• approved February appropriations of $747,291.72.
• modified the general fund appropriations for the year to $10,594,425 and the other funds to $1,611,576.71.
• approved the property tax rates for the year as approved by the County Budget Commission.
• participated with Grade 7 and 8 Science teacher Beth Duricky in an interactive game of “Are You Smarter than an Eighth Grader” using hand held technology.
• approved seven teacher coaches for spring sports
• approved substitute teacher list for March
• approved 10 additional days for teacher Mandy Burzanko
• approved a choreographer for the Spring Musical
• approved two class of 07 graduates for award of diploma as all requirements are now met
• withdrew the district application for a Chinese teacher due to expensive new requirements
• approved a reimbursement contract with Metzenbaum to allow them to reimburse us for some costs associated with the education of their students.
• approved the calendar for the 2008-09 school year. (will be posted on web later this week)
• awarded the contract to Whitehouse Construction for the renovation of the four student restrooms in the 1936 building of the high school this summer. Amount 110,000+
• accepted public comment from Scott Weber and Linda Stone
• heard the superintendent remind the board that the PI levy must be renewed in November of this year as it expires every five years.
• directed the Superintendent to put together a steering committee for the building project to move it from the design to build stage.
• adjourned the meeting at 6:55.
