First Grade Students Strive to Be in the Math Fact Hall of Fame
By: Jennifer S. Chase, Berkshire Elementary: Burton Campus
Learning the addition and subtraction facts is an important objective in first grade. The first grade students at the Burton Campus have been working really hard to learn their math facts. The children have played games, practiced flash cards and completed many addition and subtraction problems. We have been learning about how important our math facts are in everyday life.
Each Friday we devote our entire math time to the math facts. We call it “Fact Friday.” At the end of our math time we take a math fact quiz that covers the math facts we have been working on. Every student that receives a one-hundred percent on their math fact test gets their name added to our “Math Fact Hall of Fame!” Our “Math Fact Hall of Fame” is displayed on our classroom door. By the end of the year we are hoping to fill it with all the names of the students in our class.
