At Troy Elementary School our teachers use a variety of instructional methods and approaches to provide our students with instruction that is meaningful, interactive, and leads to mastery. One of such strategies is the use of the computer skills and various content practice programs. Study Island is one such program.
It is used with our students in grades 3-6 to provide them with practice on test taking skills and opportunities to practice content learned in class to testing applications. We have been using this program for the past several years and it now includes all of the main subject areas (e.g., math, reading, social studies, science). This program provides the students with the opportunity to practice skills independently but with teacher guidance and supports as needed.
Depicted here is an example of our 5th grade students working in the computer lab on Study Island in the area of science with Mr. Kostiha (science teacher for grades 4, 5, and 6).
