February 13, 2008
For the past several months, fifth grade students at Troy Elementary have been participating in a program which provided education about how to resist the dangers of drugs and alcohol. The D.A.R.E. program was conducted once a week by Deputy Lundstrum.
The program concluded with a graduation ceremony on February 7, 2008. Opening statements were given by Dr. Symsek and Deputy Lundstrum. The fifth grade participants of the program were presented with tee shirts purchased by Troy Elementary P.T.O. Students received a special certificate indicating successful completion of the program.
Students wrote essays including pledges to resist drugs, violence, and alcohol. Five students were chosen to read their essays at the graduation ceremony. Winners chosen to read their essays were Rebecca, Rachael, and Klarissa, Runners-up were Jack, and John. These five student speakers were awarded with special prizes presented by Deputy Lundstrum.
The ceremony ended with refreshments and a slide show of special moments throughout the program.
We express our appreciation to parents of the graduates. Thanks to Mrs. Simpson and Mrs. Briggs for their extra assistance in preparation for the ceremony. Thanks to Troy P.T.O. for sponsoring the purchase of tee shirts and refreshments. A special thank you to Deputy Lundstrum for his commitment to our students and for his dedication to the D.A.R.E. program.
Congratulations to our 2008 D.A.R.E. graduates!
