Up go the skyscrapers!
The third graders at Troy Elementary recently completed a lengthy project on skyscrapers. The unit began as a response to a classroom reading.
The students researched various structures with regard to whether they fit the definition of a skyscraper. From there students followed a month long schedule wherein they designed and built their own skyscrapers. The various lessons incorporated research, writing, measurement, scale, estimation, fractions, operations, distance, direction and map skills (to name a few of the requirements). The culmination was an oral presentation on each building to the class and a guided tour through each building for the entire school. Look for these designs in future skylines.
