Berkshire Students Compete in District Spelling Bee

Berkshire students in grades 4 - 8 competed in the district Spelling Bee at Burton Elementary School. One winner and one alternate was chosen from each classroom from Burton Elementary, Troy Elementary and Berkshire Junior High School. Spelling Bee classroom winners included the following students: Megan Thomas, Josiah Sawyer, Samuel Fisher, McKenna Brown, Jessica Hackett, Alyssa Spangler, Lindsay Porter, Madison Kacica, Clare Lynn, Dave Byler, Olivia Hess, Ian McClellan, Alec Vizy, Colin Horch, Jacob Brotman, Ryan Cosgrove and Brian Arnold.
Mr. Cogan, Mr. Manfredi and Mr. Miller served as judges for the Spelling Bee while Mr. Knapp served as the official pronouncer. The students did an excellent job spelling a variety of difficult words. In the end, 4th grader Samuel Fisher won the Spelling Bee. Lindsay Porter will serve as the alternate.
Sam will represent Berkshire at the Geauga County Spelling Bee on Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. at the Geauga County ESC.
