TROY SECOND GRADERS MAKE GEOMETRICAL DESIGNS
By Janet Sherman

Second graders in Mrs. Sherman's class were busy putting together square pyramids this week with the help of our volunteer dad, Mr. Hopkins. The class used straws and twist ties to create their pyramids.
They were called "square pyramids" because the base of the pyramid was a square shape. The students then worked in groups to design pyramids with other base shapes such as octagonal, pentagonal, triangular and rectangular pyramids. After the pyramids were completed, a chart was made to determine how many vertices, edges, and faces each pyramid had. What a fun activity and a great way to learn "hands-on" about 3-dimensional shapes!
