Second Graders Practice Math Skills in Many Ways!

Students in Mrs. Park’s second grade class work hard on many math concepts. They use a variety of techniques to learn and then practice these concepts. For example, they might work as a group, work in a small group, work with a friend or partner, or even individually if they choose. Just about everyday, time is set aside for the students to have the opportunity to practice facts, time, money, story problems, and geometry using various skill games, activities, or computer.
The students really enjoy practicing their learned skills with each other and having the opportunity to decide which skill to work on—they can even adjust the activities and games to make them more or less difficult depending on their abilities. (The pictures on this page show friends working on double-digit addition – one person is working the problems mentally and the other is checking with a calculator!) Working on math skills can be both educational and fun!
