Current plans for senior trip to NYC

The class of 2008 has spoken: their class trip will be to New York City this spring.  While the trip is highly anticipated by the class, there are still funding issues that need to be resolved.

Senior class advisor, Mr. Jim Lester has already spoken to several pricing companies for the trip.  He said that he would choose the least expensive trip, and then the class would have to go from there.  “We could do it like last year and just have the students pay for themselves, or we could try to do fund raisers.”  Lester said that the decision will be made as soon as he gets the information on the pricing.  The price this year could be a bit different than last year, because the trip is scheduled for later in the year.

If the class does decide to pay its fare instead of fundraising, students will have to know if they are going on the trip or not fairly soon.  “What we do is, like last year, we send home a letter stating the price of the trip and have the students and their parents decide if they will go, and if at least 60 confirm then the trip will work for the price.”

Even though last year's method of paying for the trip was a success, Lester already has fund raisers in mind that could be used this year.  For example, he suggested that a winter dance could be put on by the senior class in hopes of raising money.  Originally a dodge-ball tournament was chosen as a major fundraiser, but was lost due to scheduling conflicts.

Although the price and fund raisers for the senior trip are yet to be determined, there is no doubt that Lester, as well seniors, have their own opinions of what the class should do when in the city.  "I'm trying to find a company that will take us on a 'pop-culture bus tour'," said Lester.  This would mean that students would tour places of significance in television, movies, music, etc.  Lester also suggested that China Town and more shopping be put on the agenda.

Senior, Zach Ray said "Go to the top of the Empire State Building.  That would be so much fun....long line though."  Cindy Clark seems to have a similar opinion of skyscrapers. She said "I've never really been near big buildings, or anything like that and I'm excited to see a huge city."
