Mr. Knapp checks the roads and decides its safe to have school. What's a little snow among friends?

It's That Time of The Year!

Snow Day Procedures

by Jim Knapp

December 02, 2007

Well, the first big snow of the season is in the forecast for Monday and Tuesday, so it is best to review our SNOW DAY procedures. As I write this, the lake effect snow watch is in effect for Monday and Tuesday.

I consult with our plow drivers, the other superintendents, and law enforcement if needed to determine if it safe to send the buses out on the road. A decision is usually reached by 6:00 AM.  If we err, we want to err on the side of safety.

Once a decision is reached staff are notified, a  notice is placed on the website, and the local media are called in this order: Chan 3 (which also covers most radio stations and Chan 19 and 43), Channel 5 and Channel 8.

We will NOT be using our call out system for snow days but will use it if we have to close school early for any reason. We use the numbers you have on file with the school. You may also call our main number 834 3380 and make selection one to see if school is closed. There will also be a banner at the top of our web site homepage.

You may also call 834 3380 and press 1 for school closing information.

Here’s to a safe and snow day free winter!  Oh wait, this is Geauga County. Let’s hope for something less than the 141 inches we got last winter!
