Recently the third grade class at Troy Elementary traveled to the Porter Math and Science Center for a number of hands-on science activities. The trip included experiments that highlighted Sir Isaac Newton's basic laws. Friction, force, gravity, mass and acceleration were all examined in depth. Additionally, students examined the roles that simple machines have in changing these conditions. The student's began this course of study with a classroom visit from the Porter Center as well as a number of classroom lessons. The students plan to use the outcomes from these experiences for future lessons. Air powered flight, complex machines, and ancient machines will all be based on what was learned from this trip. The class wishes to thank the many parent volunteers who accompanied the visit.
