Kindergarten's Terrific Toothpaste!

Mrs. Maxwell's kindergarten class met Ms. T this week. They were all extremely interested in her TALL TEETH. Ms. T told them lots of ways to keep their teeth strong and healthy. They talked about brushing at least two times a day, flossing, and eating lots of healthy foods. Some of the students' favorite healthy foods included carrots, celery, and apples!
To add a little science to their letter exploration, the students made their own toothpaste! Mrs. Maxwell and Mrs. Young, a parent volunteer, helped the students measure baking soda, water, and a touch of peppermint flavoring in sandwich bag. The students squeezed it until it formed a paste. Some kids thought it smelled yummy, while others were a little unsure!
Their homework assignment was to try out their toothpaste and even share it with brave members of their families. Out of the 23 students that were in school on Thursday, seventeen had tried out the toothpaste the night before. Twelve students like the toothpaste, while five students said it was "yucky". Eleven students felt the toothpaste made their teeth feel very clean, while six said they didn't think it worked that well. All the students decided that if they were ever out of toothpaste, this would work until mom could get to the grocery store!
Happy Brushing!
