Grandparents Day At Troy Elementary

By Gina Symsek

November 03, 2007

We hosted our annual Grandparents Day on Friday and it was well attended.  Our PTO once again planned and implemented another successful event!  The grandparents and other special visitors joined us for a morning of fun and an opportunity to visit with their grandchildren and see some of the many lessons and activities they experience in school.  The event began with continental breakfast in the gym followed by musical performances by our students.  Mrs. Laughlin (music teacher) planned a performance that included many musical favorites (e.g., ‘Turn’, ‘Believe’, ‘School Days’, ‘Ball Game’) of the audience.  The students did a fantastic job and entertained the audience!  Many grandparents in the audience could be seen singing along with the students!

Following the musical performances, the door prizes of baking gift baskets and planters filled with mums were given to those with winning tickets and then the grandparents/special visitors went to the classrooms to visit the students and participate in various educational activities from money Bingo in first grade to a game show format of “Are You Smarter than a Sixth Grader’ in sixth grade.  In addition to visiting and participating in the classroom activities, the students and grandparents had the opportunity to shop for books at our Book Fair and/or purchase a pumpkin gram to be delivered to the students during their Fall Festival class parties on October 31st.

Everyone had a great time!  Thank you to Mrs. Laughlin (music teacher) for her time and efforts in another great music performance!  Thank you to Mrs. Miller (PTO member) and all those who volunteered with her!  Mrs. Miller did a great job of planning and organizing this event!  Thank you to Mrs. Porter and all the other Book Fair volunteers for their time and hard work at the Book Fair!  Thank you to all our teachers and staff for their time, support, and ongoing efforts to make such events the huge success they are and for encouraging others to get involved in the education of our students!  A special thank you to all the grandparents/special visitors for joining us at our school and for being such a special part of our students’ lives!
