“Frantic Fractions,” “Divide and Conquer,” and “ The Pi-oneers” were among six teams of 5th and 6th graders from Burton Elementary who participated in a recent Math Problem Solving Tournament. Sponsored by The Greater Cleveland Council of Teachers of Mathematics the 37th annual tournament took place on Saturday, February 23rd and our very own Berkshire elementary students were pleased to participate. The purpose of the tournament was to promote enthusiasm for mathematics and to recognize students for their interest and talents in problem solving. The students engaged in teamwork as they experienced challenging problems in a competitive setting. Various events consisted of a team problem solving round, a mental math round, and a team construction activity. Teams were recognized with red ribbons, blue ribbons and trophies depending on their final placement. Funding for participation in the tournament was generously provided by the Burton Elementary PTO. Congratulations to everyone involved!
