Dear Burton Elementary Families,
Congratulations and thank you for an exciting and successful 2017-2018 school year!
I am so grateful for our students, staff members and families at Burton Elementary! Our priority every day is to provide an environment that is safe and positive so that students can learn and grow into confident, successful young people. I am lucky to walk into that positive environment every day as your Principal!
Last year, we began our “Throw Kindness Like Confetti” bulletin board! Our goal was to fill the board with many wonderful acts of kindness! The students not only filled the board, but they filled other boards throughout the building with all of their acts of kindness and compassion towards each other. With all of the positive programs and work with our students, we were able to reach the Bronze Status with the state PBIS initiative. Our next goal is to be Silver Status and then Gold! Way to go everyone for their efforts and help to achieve these goals!
Along with acts of kindness, the staff and students continued to discuss the importance of Grit, Growth Mindset, compassion, hard work ethic, and confidence! These are all traits that will help our students be successful in anything they do! This is also why we changed our quarterly award to be named the “Integrity Award”. We talk frequently about the word InteGRITy (includes the word GRIT) and how that looks each and every day. “Be Kind, Be Wise, Be a Friend” is our motto that all the students strive to achieve each and everyday!
The staff and students are working on Project Based Learning (PBL), and we will move forward with that initiative and professional development! The Graduate Profile is being finalized and will be implemented next year in all classrooms K-12. There are a lot of great things happening at Burton Elementary, and we will all work together to make positive movement forward!
Burton Elementary School will continue to follow the same Professional Learning Community schedule for the 2018-2019 school year. We will continue to hold weekly early dismissals on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. for staff Professional Development. Please note that bus routes will pick up students from Burton Elementary School every Thursday at 2:30 p.m. If you are picking up your child, please arrive by 2:30 p.m.
SUMMER READING OPTIONS-
These are some good suggestions of “on-level” books that our students enjoy. Please encourage your child to read their suggested book(s). This is recommended for help with fluency and comprehension skills! We are often asked for summer recommendations, and these are just a few ideas! The Burton Public Library will be hosting their summer reading program beginning on June 7th. They would love to see your child at the library participating in the free fun events!

LASTLY, many of you may already know, but I am taking a maternity leave at the end of September next year! We are SO excited to be welcoming a baby girl at the end of September! I will be in school for the beginning of the year and into the month of September as long as I can be here! There will be a replacement for me while I am out, and then I will be back in action here at Burton Elementary later in the year! You will receive more information and details of who to contact and who will be filling in for me. I will send that information home when we return to school in August! Thank you for all of your support and well wishes for our family as we welcome Baby Girl Randles!
Thank you to everyone for making our school such a special place to learn and grow! I hope you have a wonderful summer with your families and friends. I already can't wait for all the exciting plans rolling out for the 2018-2019 school year!
