Dear Burton Elementary Families,

Congratulations on a fantastic 2016-2017 school year! I am so proud of all our students, staff and families! Our main goal everyday at Burton Elementary is to provide an environment that is safe and positive so that students can learn and grow into confident, successful young people. We understand the importance of academics, and we continue to provide a rigorous curriculum that challenges everyone. We also understand the importance of building strong character. “Be Kind, Be Wise, Be a Friend” is our motto that all the students strive to achieve each and everyday!

We witnessed many acts of kindness that made it on our “Throw Kindness Like Confetti” bulletin board! Our goal was to fill the board with many wonderful acts of kindness!  Along with acts of kindness, the staff and students discussed the importance of Grit, Growth Mindset, compassion, hard work ethic, and confidence! These are all traits that will help our students be successful in anything they do!

The staff and students also worked throughout the year on integrating Google, Chromebooks, MAP Testing and school-wide programming into their classrooms. We will be happy to be one-to-one with technology next year throughout the school!

PLC MEETINGS-

Burton Elementary School will continue to follow the same Professional Learning Community schedule for the 2017-2018 school year.  We will continue to hold weekly early dismissals on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. for staff Professional Development. Please note that bus routes will pick up students from Burton Elementary School every Thursday at 2:30 p.m. If you are picking up your child, please arrive by 2:30 p.m.

SUMMER READING OPTIONS-

These are some good suggestions of “on-level” books that our students enjoy.  Please encourage your child to read their suggested book(s). This is recommended for help with fluency and comprehension skills! We are often asked for summer recommendations, and these are just a few ideas! The Burton Public Library will be hosting their summer reading program beginning on June 7th. They would love to see your child at the library participating in the free fun events!
