LE Fire Safety Week fire

The Thompson fire department visited Ledgemont Elementary school during fire safety week to educate our students on the dangers of various household hazards.  With the use of Bainbridge Fire Department’s smoke room, students were taken through each chamber identifying hazard in the kitchen, living and bedrooms.  They were able to problem solve as they received instruction on how to crawl beneath the smoke and check walls/doors for heat as they exited the back of the trailer through the window. The fire department quizzed the students and answered their questions. Students loved their bags of treats from the firefighters as well.

LE Fifth Graders complete NatureScopes program with Geauga Parks rookery

On Friday, May 19th, the fifth grade students at Ledgemont Elementary went on a trip to the Rookery in Munson Township. While at the Rookery, they actively participated in 3 activities: the pond investigation, the forest walk, and wetland observation. For all these activities, they used their binoculars and field guides to help them discover the various creatures and plants around them. At the end of the trip, they learned that their binoculars and field guides were given to them by the Naturescopes Program. This was a terrific surprise to them all! Thank you, Naturescopes for sponsoring this trip and giving our students' gifts that allow them to experience all the beauty that nature has to offer!

LE scores great weather with the Tribe tribe

On Wednesday, May 17, 2017, Miss Svigel’s third graders at Ledgemont Elementary went to the corner of Carnegie and Ontario in downtown Cleveland to participate in weather day.  They watched Channel 3 WKYC Betsy Kling, Hollie Strano, and Michael Estime give weather-related explanations through activities that connect to baseball.

They taught students about molecules, states of matter, trajectory and severe weather.  They also did a density experiment and a low pressure demo with marshmallows allowing students to see science in action. The Ledgemont Elementary PTC sponsored this exciting third grade field trip to Cleveland.

After the weather day presentation, LE got a mini tour of the stadium, visiting the bullpen, the dugouts, and the FOX Sports Ohio tent. Students got to stay and watch the Cleveland Indians play the Tampa Bay Rays at Progressive Field. Relief pitcher Dan Otero waved to students up in the stands and they were even on the Jumbo Tron!

From the seats along the first base line,  LE watched the game and was there to witness Zimmer’s first career hit.  Even though the Tribe lost 7-4, they still had an amazing field trip, one they will never, ever forget!
